Why do we use vegetable-tanned leather?

Simply, it’s the best choice.

Sunshine & Rain products are proudly made from full-grain, vegetable-tanned cowhide leather sourced directly from tanneries in the Tuscan region of Italy, and members of the Consortium of Vegetable-tanned leather artisans.

These real leather hides have been ethically produced with the highest environmental standards, using non-metal, natural tannins and centuries old tradition.

Simply put, it’s the BEST leather that will outlast and outshine any man-made material, only getting better with age.

Hey Sunshine! Meet the artist.

Jacqueline Ossenfort is the maker-designer and creator behind Sunshine & Rain. Jacqueline works out of her home studio in NE Seattle with her husband and two children. She studied art and photography at the University of South Florida in Tampa, before moving to the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Jacqueline’s artistic style uses color and classic shapes to create timeless works of art.

Our goal is to create unique, timeless pieces using only the finest materials with traditional leathercrafting technique. All of our handmade goods are slow made using full-grain cowhide leather.

Sunshine & Rain was created out of joy of learning a new craft during the 2020 pandemic. It is the perfect metaphor of finding balance and creating joy in adversity.

“A good design will also show off the amazing leather it’s made from, while also giving the user the joy of watching a beautiful patina develop as it ages.”

The machine that started it all.

This 100 year old White Rotary treadle sewing machine was the spark of inspiration to start leather-crafting. It is human-powered and extremely heavy duty with a straight-stitch only. It also makes the most charming clickity-clack sound!
